Advocacy and the Arts

You can help CENTERSTAGE by becoming an active advocate for the theater to your local, state, and national elected officials and by voting for public policy initiatives that promote and fund the arts.

Advocacy efforts include lobbying your local municipality, the State of Maryland, Congress, the White House, and various other agencies; monitoring new legislation that impacts not-for-profit organizations; and by participating in national events and campaigns designed to show support for arts funding.

Contact Sean Beattie, Grants Manager, at sbeattie@centerstage.org or 410.986.4021, for information about current government issues impacting CENTERSTAGE, and how you can support our efforts.

CENTERSTAGE also encourages you to support the following advocacy organizations—sign up using the groups’ links below to receive email bulletins with late-breaking arts advocacy news:

Americans for the Arts
The leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America. Their three primary goals: increasing public and private sector support for the arts; ensuring that every American child has access to a high-quality arts education; and strengthening communities through the arts.
