Encounter

— Encounter is accepting applications for the ensemble track this season—

What is Encounter?

Student artists and leaders, ages 14 to 18 years old, are encouraged to apply for the 2010-11 Season. This program trains students as artists working in public service. Encounter is an ideal place for students to complete their community service hours.

Under the Encounter umbrella is our Apprentice program, which offers individualized training for student artists and leaders considering careers in theater and/or in service. There is no deadline for the Apprentice Program. Applications will always be accepted.

Program Description

Encounter 2011 aligns itself with national service initiatives around the country to train students as artists working in public service. We are currently welcoming applications along two tracks: (1) am ensemble-based performance program and (2) an individualized apprentice program.

  1. The ensemble-based performance program meets on Mondays afternoons from 4:30 pm–6:30 pm at CENTERSTAGE. During the first half of the season, the ensemble works together to develop a creative community, a performance piece and a workshop series. The second half of the season, we will share our work with the community. Encounter creates an original theatrical event each season and participants are immersed in the inner workings of the theater. Students will also have the opportunity to lead community workshops and performances for organizations and special events. There is a program fee of $50 for each semester. This fee may be paid in installments and subsidies are available upon request. Application deadline is October 1, 2010.

  2. The individualized apprentice program offers individualized training for student artists and leaders considering careers in the theater and/or in service. This training is scheduled on an individual basis and is tailor-made to meet the needs and schedule of each student. There is no application deadline for apprenticeships.

Apprentices may be placed in one or more of the following departments:
