The 2012 Young Playwrights Festival

What Is It?

Our 26th annual Young Playwrights Festival receives hundreds of play submissions from students in elementary through high school grades throughout the state. Students whose plays are selected as festival participate in workshops with theater artists as their plays are staged by professional actors, designers, and directors in an often sold-out public performance at CENTERSTAGE each spring.

Please read our 2012 Young Playwrights Festival Submission Guidelines before submitting. For more information, including sample plays, call the Department of Community Programs & Education at 410.986.4050 or e-mail education@centerstage.org.

How Do I Participate?

Calling all playwrights! We are already accepting submissions for the 2012 Young Playwrights Festival. We look forward to reading your play!

Special Thanks:

The Young Playwrights Festival is made possible through the generous support of our many community partners, including:

CENTERSTAGE is a proud recipient of an “Arts Connect All” grant, made possible through a partnership with VSA arts and MetLife Foundation. This grant supports deaf student participation in our Playwrights in Schools program, including the creation of an original script submission to be performed in the 2011 Young Playwrights Festival.

Go beyond the festival. Learn about Playwright Residencies, which bring theater professionals and artists directly into classrooms to help students develop creative writing and analytical skills; and The Young Playwrights Festival Tour where plays from previous festivals are performed in schools throughout the state.
