NEW PROJECT INQUIRIES

We are in the process of updating our systems for new project development. We appreciate your patience as we critically examine our practices in efforts to make them more equitable and transparent.

In the meantime, we accept inquiries from a range of traditional and non-traditional sources, including literary agents, direct solicitation from our artistic leadership, directors, and relationships with new work development programs and festivals. If you are a generative artist without an agent, we will be glad to learn more about your work. Anyone can email us at artisticpartnerships@centerstage.org to propose a project, invite us to an upcoming reading or production, or just to ask us out to coffee.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

With the goal of an equitable and transparent process, we want to be clear about the values that are guiding our decisions around new artistic projects.

At Baltimore Center Stage, we:

  • prioritize people and process;
  • conceptualize theatre as an integral part of the fabric of civic life;
  • are especially excited about work that subverts traditional theatrical norms, brings innovative stories to the stage, celebrates theatricality, and seeks to redefine relationships between audience and performer;
  • aim to partner with artists engaged in anti-racist and decolonizing work with joyful rigor;
  • are interested in work that is in connection with Baltimore or the greater Chesapeake region (whether through the generative artists behind the project or the subject matter itself).

We also have a strong history of producing fresh versions of classic plays and welcome inquiries from directors and devisors who are interested in critically reimagining the canon.
